Acceptable Use and Community Guidelines

Last updated: 25 August 2026

These Guidelines apply to Yachtara accounts, shared vessel workspaces, document storage, community boards, posts, media, location contributions, reports and interactions with Yachtara systems. They form part of the Terms of Service.

1. The standard

Use Yachtara lawfully, honestly and with respect for other people, vessels, marine safety and the integrity of the Service. Content should contribute to a useful boating community and must not expose another person to avoidable risk.

2. Prohibited content and conduct

Do not use Yachtara to publish, upload, transmit or facilitate:

  • content that is illegal in the relevant jurisdiction;
  • credible threats, harassment, stalking, intimidation or targeted abuse;
  • hateful or unlawfully discriminatory content directed at protected groups;
  • sexual exploitation, non-consensual intimate material or any sexual content involving a minor;
  • impersonation, fraudulent identity, scams, phishing or deceptive commercial activity;
  • personal data, live location, private communications or confidential records published without a lawful basis;
  • copyright, trademark or other intellectual-property infringement;
  • malware, credential theft, exploitation instructions or unauthorised security testing;
  • spam, artificial engagement, repetitive promotion or unauthorised scraping;
  • instructions or coordination for violence, piracy, smuggling, sanctions evasion or other serious unlawful conduct;
  • deliberately false distress messages or fabricated marine emergencies;
  • dangerously misleading navigation, anchorage, weather or safety information presented as verified fact; or
  • attempts to overload, disrupt, bypass or reverse engineer the Service except where applicable law expressly permits it.

3. Marine information and advice

Community information is contributed by users and is not verified navigation data. Never treat a post, anchorage marker, route, maintenance comment or weather observation as a substitute for official charts, warnings, qualified technical advice or competent seamanship.

If sharing safety-critical information:

  • distinguish personal observation from verified fact;
  • include the observation time and relevant conditions where possible;
  • do not conceal known uncertainty;
  • correct a material error promptly; and
  • avoid directing another vessel into a hazard.

4. Privacy and location posts

Community posts are not private. Do not publish a person's home address, contact details, identity documents, precise live position or vessel-security information without authority.

Location-board coordinates are deliberately submitted by the user and stored at approximately three decimal places, roughly 111 metres at the equator. Reduced precision lowers risk but does not anonymise a location. Consider whether publishing an anchorage or vessel location could expose a person or vessel to theft, harassment or unwanted tracking.

The current community has no private direct-message feature and no user-level block or mute control. Report abusive content immediately and disengage from the interaction. A blocking function is a recommended pre-launch safety improvement.

5. Vessel workspaces and invitations

Only invite people who have a legitimate connection to the vessel or activity. Do not use invitations for marketing, harassment or address validation.

Workspace members must respect the permissions assigned by the owner or administrator. Do not copy, disclose or repurpose another member's personal data, documents or vessel records outside the purpose for which access was granted.

6. Reporting illegal or prohibited content

Use the report function attached to the content where available. Reports may also be sent to support@yachtara.com.

A useful report should contain:

  • the exact post, content identifier or URL;
  • a clear explanation of why the content is illegal or violates these Guidelines;
  • the country or legal rule concerned where relevant;
  • supporting information or evidence; and
  • the reporting person's name and email address, unless anonymous reporting is legally permitted and sufficient for assessment.

Submit reports in good faith. Knowingly false, abusive or repetitive reports may themselves violate these Guidelines.

7. Intellectual-property notices

A copyright or trademark notice should identify:

  • the protected work or right;
  • the allegedly infringing Yachtara content and its location;
  • the rights holder and the reporting person's authority;
  • contact information; and
  • a good-faith statement that the complained-of use is unauthorised.

Yachtara may request additional information before acting and may forward relevant parts of the notice to the affected user where lawful.

8. How moderation works

Yachtara currently uses authorised human administrators for community moderation. It does not use an external AI classifier to make content decisions.

Depending on severity, context and history, Yachtara may:

  • take no action;
  • ask for clarification or correction;
  • reduce visibility or add a warning;
  • remove specific content;
  • restrict posting or features;
  • suspend an account; or
  • terminate an account and preserve evidence where required.

Urgent action may be taken without advance notice where content creates a serious safety, security or legal risk.

When required by applicable law, Yachtara will give the affected user a clear statement of reasons identifying the content, the action, the relevant rule or legal basis, the main facts and available appeal options.

9. Appeals

An affected user may appeal a moderation decision by replying to the decision notice or emailing support@yachtara.com within six months. The appeal should identify the decision and explain why it should be changed.

Where reasonably possible, a person not responsible for the original decision will review the appeal. Yachtara will communicate the outcome and may restore, modify or confirm the decision.

This internal process does not remove any right to contact a court, regulator, certified out-of-court dispute body or law-enforcement authority.

10. Repeated misuse

Yachtara may suspend users who frequently provide manifestly illegal content or repeatedly submit manifestly unfounded reports. Before doing so, Yachtara will consider the number and seriousness of incidents, their proportion relative to legitimate activity, intention where it can be identified, and the effect on other users.

11. Account deletion and public posts

Users should delete individual posts before requesting account deletion if they want the posts removed. When an account is erased, Yachtara may delete public contributions or retain them with authorship anonymised where lawful and necessary to preserve the continuity of discussions. Material may be retained for complaints, legal obligations, security investigations or legal claims.

12. Law-enforcement and emergency requests

Yachtara assesses government and emergency requests for legal validity, scope and necessity. Yachtara may preserve or disclose information where legally required. Yachtara is not an emergency dispatch or vessel-monitoring service and cannot guarantee real-time access to user information.

13. Changes

These Guidelines may be updated to respond to legal, safety, product or community developments. Material changes will be communicated as described in the Terms of Service.
